Jonathon Porritt: 'Love Anger & Betrayal'. Speaker Tour, Edinburgh

Join veteran climate (and now Palestine) campaigner Jonathon Porritt for an evening discussing his new book, which asks "What good are science and rational persuasion if no one is paying attention?"

His eleventh book, 'Love, Anger & Betrayal', visits the latest generation of climate activists and documents the experiences of 26 insightful young people - his co-authors - who joined Just Stop Oil's Nonviolent Civil Resistance. The book reveals their passion for a just and sustainable transition away from our global economic and cultural dependence on fossil fuels. But who, with the political power, is listening?

Author of many highly respected books, Porritt believes it's 'not too late' to avoid climate breakdown. But that very soon it will be.

Putting his money where his mouth is, Jonathon has twice been arrested recently under Terrorism legislation for his involvement in Defend Our Juries' 'Lift the Ban' campaign to de-proscribe Palestine Action. He was arrested alongside hundreds of others for peacefully holding a placard reading "I oppose Genocide. I support Palestine Action".

Climate Ready South East Scotland: Shareback event

images of various scottish landmarks within circles

Climate Ready South East Scotland (CRSES) published the first climate risk and opportunity assessment for the Edinburgh and South East Scotland city region in April 2025. By working together with hundreds of organisations and communities in phase 1 of the project, they now have a better understanding of how climate change will affect our region, and where we need to prioritise adaptation action together to minimise risks and maximise opportunities.

Phase 2 of CRSES is now underway and activities planned for this year will take us from risk assessment results to delivering collaborative climate resilience action on the ground

This informal webinar is a chance to learn more about the key findings from the climate risk and opportunity assessment, the collaboration's priorities for 2025-26 and how you can get involved in robust, collaborative climate resilience action within our region.

Join Verture and their Local Authority partners for this informative and hands-on session, and help Edinburgh and South East Scotland become more resilient to the impacts of climate change.

Please note that this session is being recorded.

How you can help

Please join them, and share this invitation with your contacts.

The context

Edinburgh and South East Scotland's climate is already changing, and will continue to do so for decades after we reach net zero GHG emisisons. This means more extreme weather; hotter, drier, summers; wetter winters; more unpredictable seasons and rainfall, super-charged storms and rising sea levels.

These changes will affect our communities, and the places we care about – where we live, work and play. They will also affect the natural world, and the systems that we rely on, from transport, to food supply. We need to become more resilient to the impacts of climate change to ensure that our region can prosper, and that all our communities and places can flourish. To find out about how climate change impacts are already affecting communities and places in Edinburgh and South East Scotland visit our project Story Map to hear from those being impacted today.

Funders

The project is being delivered as part of the Regional Prosperity Framework, with support from Capital City Partnership. The project is funded by the UK Shared Prosperity Fund and Scottish Government.

Power Station Screening
Sept

Power Station Screening

Two artists and activists are on a mission to power their street with solar energy, one home at a time.

As climate breakdown, the cost-of-living crisis and fuel poverty worsen while the UK government wallows in inaction, what can we do? Take power into our own hands.

‘Every home a power station’ is the infectious call at the heart of artist-activists Hilary Powell and Dan Edelstyn’s project to power their street with solar energy one home at a time – inspired by mutual aid networks that flourished during lockdown. Power Station is a warm, humorous and moving portrait of Powell and Edelstyn’s quest to build community power – which is not just about buying solar panels, but reaffirming a collective belief that a different world is possible. As they knock on neighbours’ doors, harness their creativity to raise funds, and persevere through financial and logistical setbacks, what they find is hard to resist – proof that all the power we need is right here, in the people around us.

Screening as part of #TOAFF25.

Join Take One Action for a galvanising post-screening conversation with filmmaker Dan Edelstyn and local artist and theatre maker Hazel Darwin-Clements to equip you with creative tools to plug into the movement for just transition right here in Edinburgh.
