Edinburgh Greentech Futures: GreenHack

edinburgh castle next to the event title

What is this event?

Join them at the Greentech Hackathon, an event led in partnership with Edinburgh Greentech Futures. No hacking, tech or environmental experience is required, just a curiosity to learn and an interest in coming up with creative solutions to some of the most pressing environmental issues we are facing today.

Join them for a day of working together to create something that could make a difference.

What can I expect?

With help from CodeBase team members and their facilitator, you will be split into teams to solve a problem presented to you at the beginning of the day. Or, if you have a problem of your own you want to solve, you will be placed on their ‘wildcard’ table, to work alongside others to help you solve it.

This is a day of brainstorming and developing tech-based solutions (with no tech experience required), having fun and making connections!

They will provide a light lunch, and time for you to network and meet your fellow hackers.

If you'd like to submit a problem to be worked on by the group, you can fill out the submission form here!

What should I bring?

Please bring along a laptop/mobile device to research and work from.

Who will be there?

The Edinburgh Greentech Futures cohort, comprised of early stage startups and people in the ideation stage. The programme Manager Charlotte Keeley and programme Coordinator Konstantinos Giannoulidis will also be there to facilitate conversations and answer any of your questions.

The Greentech team will also be joined by Rob Green to help facilitate the day. Rob is an experienced product leader with a strong background in B2B SaaS, digital strategy, and innovation. He’s led product vision and strategy at GivePanel and held transformative roles at organisations like Cancer Research UK and Alzheimer’s Society.

With deep expertise in agile delivery, cross-functional collaboration, and user-centred design, Rob brings a thoughtful, impact-driven approach to digital problem-solving. Passionate about servant leadership and making a difference through tech, Rob is excited to support this year’s GreenHack participants as they explore innovative, sustainable solutions.

Where is this taking place?

This session will take place in person at their Edinburgh Hub, 37a Castle Terrace, Edinburgh EH1 2EL on Monday 30th June, 10am - 4pm.

On arrival, you will be directed to the event space for registration and networking before the Hackathon begins.

How do I get there?

They are located a flat four minute walk from Lothian Road, which is served by a large range of bus routes. The nearest stop is outside St Cuthbert’s Church (the first stop at the Princes Street end of Lothian Road). Why Not Scotland?: Stories for environmental and climate justice with N1M

Join SCCAN for an online screening of the documentary film Why Not Scotland and a discussion about rewilding and nature recovery.
Why Not Scotland? is a feature-length documentary that accompanies Flo, a young Scot from Glasgow, on an intensely personal journey, as she seeks out examples of nature recovery around Europe. Like many of her generation, Flo is concerned by the state of nature and fearful about an uncertain future. However, during her travels, she discovers places where nature is making a spectacular comeback, breathing life back into the landscape and revitalising human communities. Encouraged by these stories of hope and renewal, she is prompted to wonder: Why Not Scotland?
